J-K’s Doda Enforces Installation of CCTV Cameras and Speed Governors in Passenger Vehicles
In response to the tragic road accident in Doda district, the Jammu and Kashmir government has taken a significant step towards improving road safety. It has been made mandatory for all passenger vehicles, especially matadors and buses, to install CCTV cameras.
Meeting to Strengthen Safety Protocols
A meeting was held in Doda’s mini-conference hall, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh, to discuss and implement new safety measures. The meeting focused on strengthening safety protocols and ensuring closer monitoring of transportation operations.
Compulsory Measures for Passenger Vehicles
The directives issued require every passenger vehicle to display essential information prominently. This includes PCR and traffic toll-free numbers, driver and vehicle details, and the authorised speed limit for specific roads. Additionally, the installation of speed governors in all passenger vehicles has been emphasized to prevent overspeeding.
Audit of Advanced Life Support Ambulances
The government has also mandated an audit of the district’s Advance Life Support (ALS) ambulance fleet to ensure rapid response in emergencies. This move aims to enhance the readiness and efficiency of emergency services.
Identification of Black Spots and Road Safety Audits
The District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) decided to identify black spots with visibility of less than 100 meters. A road safety audit is to be conducted within 20 days to proactively mitigate potential hazards. Emphasis has been placed on installing speed limits and stringent monitoring measures.
Implementation of Stringent Measures
To ensure comprehensive road safety, checkpoints will be established in sensitive areas to monitor overspeeding and overcrowding. These measures reflect a concerted effort by the Jammu and Kashmir government to reduce risks associated with commuting and enhance overall road safety.
