Punjab Police ASI Suspended After Video Allegedly Shows Heroin Planted at Religious Leader’s Home

LUDHIANA, November 2, 2026 (VoM News): A Punjab Police Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) has been suspended after purported hidden-camera footage allegedly showed him planting a packet beneath a mattress at a Hindu religious leader’s residence in Khanna, raising questions over a subsequent drug recovery.

Khanna SSP Dr Darpan Ahluwalia suspended ASI Sukhdev Singh, who was posted with the CIA staff, and ordered his removal from the case. Mahant Kashmir Giri, arrested on drug trafficking charges following the raid, has also been released from the case.

Police had raided Giri’s residence after arresting his driver, Gurjant Singh alias Janta, who was allegedly caught carrying 7.5 grams of heroin. According to police, the driver’s interrogation led investigators to the mahant’s home, where they claimed to recover around 30 grams of heroin beneath a bed mattress.

However, footage reportedly recorded by a hidden camera installed by the family appears to show Sukhdev Singh entering the room in plain clothes before the police team arrived and placing a packet beneath the mattress. The video’s authenticity and the circumstances surrounding the recovery remain under investigation.

A Special Investigation Team headed by a Superintendent of Police-rank officer has been formed to examine the footage, the alleged planting of contraband and the possible involvement of other personnel.

Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal criticised the Aam Aadmi Party government, accusing the police of misconduct and questioning Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s handling of law and order.
