IIT Kanpur Hosts SEBI’s ‘Wealth Code’ Investor Awareness Session During World Investor Week
~Techkriti and DoMS bring a senior SEBI official to campus to promote financial literacy and investor awareness among young investors.
Kanpur, October 10, 2026: As part of World Investor Week, Techkriti, the annual technical and entrepreneurship festival of the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur), in collaboration with the Alumni and Corporate Relations (ACR) Committee of the Department of Management Sciences (DoMS), hosted ‘Wealth Code’, an investor awareness session organised by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) in association with the National Stock Exchange (NSE). The event was made possible through the efforts of Prof. Suman Saurabh of DoMS, IIT Kanpur, who supported it from the department’s side.
Mr. Vipul Jain, Deputy General Manager at SEBI’s Northern Regional Office, who conducted the session, brings over a decade of experience in investigating securities market fraud, enforcing securities market regulations, inspecting market intermediaries, and promoting investor awareness and education. The session focused on helping students make informed financial decisions as they embark on their investment journeys.
The session highlighted the importance of starting early and adopting disciplined, regular investing habits to build long-term wealth through the power of compounding. Participants were introduced to various investment avenues, including mutual funds, Systematic Investment Plans (SIPs), Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) and bonds, along with their basic features and associated risks.
A key focus of the session was raising awareness about online investment fraud and the importance of exercising caution while making financial decisions. Students were advised to deal only with SEBI-registered intermediaries and verify their registration through SEBI’s official platforms. They were also introduced to SEBI Check, which enables investors to verify an intermediary’s UPI ID or bank account before transferring funds. The session further emphasised the need to remain cautious about unsolicited investment tips, ‘sure-shot’ calls and unverified financial advice shared on social media.
Participants were encouraged to use trusted investor education resources, including the SEBI SaaRthi app and SEBI’s investor portal. The session also covered channels for reporting financial fraud and lodging investor grievances, including the SEBI Complaints Redressal System (SCORES) and SEBI’s toll-free investor helpline at 1800-266-7575 and 1800-22-7575.
The interactive session provided students with an opportunity to engage directly with a securities market regulator and seek clarity on investment-related concerns. It concluded with SEBI’s investor awareness message, “Savdhaan Bartein, Satark Rahein”, encouraging young investors to remain informed and vigilant.
The ‘Wealth Code’ session reflects the broader efforts of Techkriti and DoMS at IIT Kanpur to connect students with industry professionals and regulators, equipping them with practical knowledge relevant to technology, entrepreneurship and the economy.
