Five Indian Seafarers Rescued After Kuwait-Flagged Tanker Hit by Projectile in Strait of Hormuz

MUSCAT, Oct 3, 2026 [VoM News]: Five Indian nationals aboard the Kuwait-flagged crude oil tanker MT Kazimah III were safely brought ashore after the vessel was struck by a projectile in the Strait of Hormuz, the Indian Embassy in Oman said.

The Embassy said it coordinated the rescue operation on Friday with assistance from Omani authorities. All five Indian crew members were shifted ashore safely following the incident.

MT Kazimah III was reportedly sailing towards Lome, Togo, when it was hit amid heightened maritime security concerns in the Gulf region.

The incident comes as India monitors the safety of thousands of Indian seafarers working aboard commercial vessels in the Persian Gulf.

The Ministry of External Affairs recently said more than 4,500 Indian seafarers were serving on commercial ships operating in the region, including 163 aboard 12 vessels being specifically monitored.

Indian authorities have said diplomatic missions and maritime agencies remain in coordination to ensure the safety and welfare of Indian seafarers amid continuing risks to commercial shipping.
