A 25-year-old man, Anmol Dogra, was found dead by hanging inside the Katra police station in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday. According to officials, Dogra, a resident of Mathyal village in Katra, had been detained by the police for questioning related to a case last week.

His death has sparked widespread protests by his family and villagers, who have accused the police of foul play and demanded a thorough investigation.

Puran Chand, Dogra’s father, expressed disbelief at the circumstances surrounding his son’s death, questioning how he could have obtained a rope to hang himself in a secure police lockup. The incident has raised serious concerns about the conditions of custody and the conduct of the police involved in the case.

In response to the uproar, Sub-divisional Magistrate (SDM) Piyush Dotra has ordered an inquiry to ascertain the facts surrounding Dogra’s death.

Authorities are under pressure to ensure transparency and accountability as the family and local residents continue to demand justice.

Following the incident, Dogra’s body was handed over to his family after a post-mortem examination. In protest, relatives and locals blocked the main road near Mathyal, voicing their anger over what they term a “custodial death.”

The SDM, accompanied by the Additional Superintendent of Police, Katra, met with the protesters and urged them to disperse peacefully, assuring them that the inquiry into Dogra’s death is already underway.

As the investigation progresses, the community awaits answers, with the hope that justice will be served in this tragic case.
