22 Arrested in Connection with Statue Installation and Removal Clash in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh
Twenty-two individuals have been arrested in connection with the installation and removal of a statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain district. The incident occurred near Krishi Upaj Mandi, leading to clashes between two groups. Superintendent of Police Sachin Sharma stated that the installation and removal of the statue violated rules, leading to three registered cases. The arrested individuals include those accused of hindering official duties, involvement in the clashes, and stalling the statue removal. The situation has returned to normal, with markets functioning smoothly.
Three Cases Registered; Arrests Continue
SP Sachin Sharma explained that the cases involved government employees hindering duty, clashes during the statue removal, and stalling the idol installation. Sixteen individuals were arrested on Friday in connection with the clashes, and arrests are ongoing for the remaining accused. The prompt police response helped normalize the situation within two hours of the clash incident.
Statue Clash Prompts Suspension of Police Station In Charge
During the incident, a clash erupted over the removal of the statue, resulting in injuries to Sub Inspector Lalchand Sharma. ASP Guru Prasad Parashar noted that Makdone police station in charge Bhim Singh Deora was suspended for serious negligence in the incident. The clashes occurred when one group removed the statue installed near Krishi Upaj Mandi by another group.
The arrests and police actions aim to address the violations and restore order in the Ujjain district. The incident highlights the importance of adhering to regulations regarding the installation and removal of statues and preventing public clashes over such matters.
