    In Shopian district of south Kashmir, authorities took action on Tuesday by seizing approximately 200 quintals of counterfeit organic fertilizers. The operation was carried out by a joint team comprised of law enforcement agencies from the agriculture department and the pesticides association in the Sugoo Imamsahib area.

    The initiative, led by Director Agriculture Kashmir Chowdhury Mohammad Iqbal, aimed to combat black marketing and prevent the distribution of substandard fertilizers through unauthorized sales. Acting on credible information, the inspection resulted in the confiscation of around 200 quintals of substandard fertilizers.

    Director Iqbal emphasized the department’s commitment to preventing the circulation of substandard fertilizers among farmers. He stated that the department’s enforcement wing conducted a raid, revealing a significant quantity of substandard fertilizer in use.He issued a stern warning, asserting that strict legal action would be taken against individuals engaged in the sale of misbranded fertilizers.

    Director Iqbal encouraged farmers to undergo soil tests to determine their land’s essential nutrient requirements before utilizing fertilizers. He advised farmers to consult the agriculture department at the Panchayat level before using any seeds, fertilizers, or pesticides to avoid falling prey to deceptive practices.

    Director Iqbal expressed the department’s goal of empowering farmers to cultivate crops not only for personal consumption but also for the market, promoting financial independence.

    Additionally, he urged the public to report any suspicions regarding the sale of fake or substandard materials related to the department, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts in maintaining the integrity of agricultural practices.
