WhatsApp Testing Imagine Shortcut for AI-Powered Images
Key Highlights:
- WhatsApp reportedly testing Imagine shortcut for AI-generated images.
- Shortcut spotted in WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.12.4.
- Meta AI’s image-generation capabilities may be accessible via the shortcut.
WhatsApp is reportedly experimenting with a new feature called Imagine, a shortcut that enables users to generate AI-powered images quickly. This development aligns with Meta’s ongoing efforts to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) features into its messaging platform, including AI-generated profile photos and stickers.
According to a report by WhatsApp update tracker WABetaInfo, the Imagine shortcut was spotted in the beta version of WhatsApp for Android (v2.24.12.4). This feature is believed to leverage Meta AI’s image-generation capabilities, allowing users to quickly create custom images directly within the app.
Previously, Meta AI’s image-generation features could only be accessed via text prompts by tagging the AI chatbot with “@Meta AI” in group chats. However, the introduction of the Imagine shortcut suggests a more streamlined approach to generating AI images, catering to users who frequently communicate using such images.
While the feature is currently in development and not available even to beta testers, it is speculated to be introduced to a wider audience in the future. Additionally, it may only be accessible to users who already have access to Meta AI, which is currently available in select regions including the US, Australia, Canada, and South Africa, with testing underway in India.
In addition to the Imagine shortcut, WhatsApp is also testing an AI-powered Profile Photos feature, allowing users to generate custom profile pictures based on provided descriptions. This feature, spotted in WhatsApp for Android version 2.24.11.17, further highlights Meta’s commitment to integrating AI capabilities into its messaging platform, enhancing user experience and engagement.
