WhatsApp Introduces Profile Picture Privacy Feature
WhatsApp has rolled out a new privacy feature that prevents users from taking screenshots of other users’ profile pictures on Android smartphones. This feature, which was initially tested on the beta version of the app, is now being enabled for all users. While the exact details of this functionality have not been officially announced by Meta, the rollout has been confirmed by Android Police.
While users on both stable and beta versions of WhatsApp for Android are now unable to capture screenshots of profile pictures, the feature does not extend to WhatsApp for iOS users on both beta and stable versions.
However, it’s essential to recognize that this feature does not entirely prevent users from saving profile pictures. Despite the screenshot block, users can still take photos of their screens using another device, circumventing the privacy measure. Additionally, WhatsApp does not block screenshots of profile pictures in the main chat list, where thumbnails are displayed.
Enhanced Chat Organization with Multiple Message Pins
In another update, WhatsApp is testing the ability for users to pin multiple messages at the top of a chat. While currently, users can only pin a single message, the latest beta version for Android introduces the option to pin up to three messages simultaneously. This improvement aims to provide users with more flexibility in accessing important information within individual or group chats.
Beta testers can access this feature by updating to WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.6.15, with a broader rollout anticipated for both iOS and Android users in the future. As WhatsApp continues to evolve its features, these updates reflect the platform’s commitment to enhancing privacy and user experience.
