His appointment comes at a time when West Asia continues to witness heightened tensions following the escalation of conflict that began on February 28, when the United States and Israel launched military strikes on Iran, prompting retaliatory action from Tehran.
India has consistently called for restraint and has maintained that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable path to restoring peace, stability and security in the region.
