    Hindus for Human Rights Launches The Speaking Tree to Gather Voices on Hinduism’s Future

    New interactive space invites people to share their memories, questions, and hopes, and to listen to what others have to say
    NEW YORK, NY, September 28th, 2026 — Hindus for Human Rights (HfHR) has launched The Speaking Tree, an interactive space asking a question:What kind of Hindu future do you hope to see?

     Visitors can explore thoughts left by others and add a reflection of their own. Each message becomes a leaf on the tree. Some may speak about a practice or memory they cherish. Others may raise a question, describe where they have or have not found belonging, or imagine something they hope will change. 

    The project invites people to speak from their own experience and spend time with experiences unlike theirs. For HfHR, listening to this range of voices is part of building a movement rooted in human dignity, equality, and care for one another.

     The Speaking Tree also connects to the wider conversation opened by Samadarshini, the progressive Hindu project co-founded by HfHR co-founder Sunita Viswanath. Samadarshini brings religious leaders, scholars, writers, and communities together to explore Hindu thought and practice through questions of caste, gender, pluralism, and justice.

    Its recent anthology, Seeing Equally: An Anthology of Progressive Hindu Voices, offers reflections from contributors with different relationships to Hindu traditions. 

    The Speaking Tree gives anyone moved by these questions a place to join in. Visitors do not need to have read the book, belong to an organization, or arrive with a finished view of Hinduism.

    A memory, a doubt, or a few honest sentences can begin a conversation.HfHR invites people to visit the tree, read a few leaves, and add their own at thespeakingtree.hindusforhumanrights.org.
