Virat Kohli Shines in ODI with Ball and Bat at World Cup Match Against Netherlands
In a remarkable display of versatility, Virat Kohli impacted the World Cup match against the Netherlands in Bengaluru, both as a bowler and a batsman. His all-round performance has been a significant highlight in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023.
Kohli’s Rare Bowling Feat
Kohli, primarily known for his batting prowess, claimed his first one-day international wicket in nine years. With India’s skipper Rohit Sharma handing him the ball, Kohli achieved this rare feat by dismissing the opposition captain, Scott Edwards. This wicket, off a ball drifting down the leg side, was Kohli’s fifth career ODI wicket and first since 2014 when he dismissed New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum in Wellington.
Consistent Batting Performance
Not just with the ball, Kohli continued to impress with the bat. Scoring 51 in 56 balls against the Netherlands, he showcased his consistent batting form. This fifty-plus score was his seventh in this World Cup, including two centuries, tying with legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Shakib al Hasan for the most fifty-plus scores in a single edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup.
Leading India’s Charge in the World Cup
As the top run-getter in the tournament, Kohli has amassed 594 runs in nine innings at an average of 99.00. His outstanding performance includes two centuries and five fifties, with a best score of 103*. Under his stellar batting, the ‘Men in Blue’ are maintaining their unbeaten streak in the tournament, aiming to clinch the prestigious title.
