Indian chess prodigy Vaishali Rameshbabu has achieved a significant milestone by earning her grandmaster title, crossing the 2,500 FIDE ranking points at the IV El Llobregat Open in Spain. This achievement makes her only the third Indian female player to attain the grandmaster status.

    Completion of Grandmaster Title Requirements

Having already fulfilled three GM norms, Vaishali completed the final requirement for the title on Friday by reaching the necessary rating points. She joins an elite group of Indian chess grandmasters, including Koneru Humpy, Harika Dronavalli, and the legendary Vishwanathan Anand.

    Vaishali and Praggnanandhaa: Grandmaster Siblings

An interesting aspect of Vaishali’s achievement is her familial connection to the chess world. She is the sister of 18-year-old chess sensation Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa, making them the first-ever grandmaster siblings pair in chess history.

    Recognition and Congratulatory Messages

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin congratulated Vaishali on her achievement, highlighting her status as the first female Grandmaster from Tamil Nadu and her historic accomplishment alongside her brother. In a social media post, Stalin praised Vaishali for her inspiring journey and contribution to women’s empowerment, celebrating her success as a source of pride for Tamil Nadu.

Vaishali’s accomplishment is not only a personal triumph but also a significant moment for Indian chess, reflecting the growing prowess of Indian players on the global chess stage. Her journey serves as an inspiration to young chess enthusiasts and women in sports.
