In a disturbing incident, a security guard was shot in the back of the head while attempting to intervene and break up a fight during a high school football game. The incident occurred outside the stadium at Proctor High School in Utica, New York, on Saturday, September 9, at approximately 4:10 p.m.
Violence Erupts During the Game
The incident unfolded when a group of individuals began fighting on the pavement. Amid the altercation, two gunshots rang out, striking one of the security guards who were working to separate the groups. A video of the incident has circulated online, capturing the chaotic and dangerous situation.
Security Guard in Critical Condition
The security guard who was shot was rushed to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition, according to reports. The New York Post provided this update on the guard’s condition. The identity of the security guard has not been disclosed.

Utica Police Chief Mark Williams reported that the group involved in the altercation had been turned away from the varsity football game against Binghamton High School just moments before the shooting. Another member of the school’s law enforcement had refused to allow them into the stadium, suspecting that something was amiss with the group.
