US Condemns Houthi Rebels for Sinking of Rubymar
The US military has strongly condemned Yemen’s Houthi rebels following the sinking of the UK-owned Rubymar.
The vessel, carrying approximately 21,000 metric tons of ammonium phosphate sulfate fertilizer, poses both environmental and subsurface impact risks in the Red Sea.
In a statement posted on X, US Central Command expressed concern over the heightened threat the Iran-backed Houthis pose to global maritime activities.
The sinking of the Rubymar not only raises environmental concerns but also poses a potential risk to other ships navigating the busy shipping lanes in the Red Sea.
“The United States and coalition partners remain committed to safeguarding freedom of navigation, striving to enhance the safety and security of international waters for merchant shipping,” the statement emphasized.
The condemnation underscores the international community’s commitment to ensuring the safety of maritime activities in the region.
