Union Cabinet Approves Medical Product Regulation Cooperation with Netherlands
The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has given its approval for the Memorandum of Intent (MoI) in the field of medical product regulation between India and the Netherlands. This MoI, signed on November 7 last year, aims to enhance understanding and cooperation in medical products regulation, covering pharmaceuticals, raw materials, biological products, medical devices, and cosmetic products.
The MoI involves collaboration between India’s Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, representing Medicines Evaluation Board, Health and Youth Care Inspectorate, and Central Committee on Research Involving Human Subjects.
The framework established by the MoI intends to facilitate cooperation and information exchange between CDSCO and the relevant authorities in the Netherlands. This collaboration aligns with international responsibilities, fostering convergence in regulatory practices.
The government highlighted that such convergence could contribute to increasing the export of medicines from India, potentially leading to better employment opportunities in the pharmaceutical sector. The MoI is expected to streamline regulatory processes, benefiting the export of medical products and contributing to foreign exchange earnings.
This collaborative effort reflects a commitment to harmonizing medical product regulations and fostering fruitful cooperation between India and the Netherlands in the healthcare sector.
