Two Women Arrested in Goa for Alleged Involvement in International Sex Racket
Israel and Kenya Nationals Held in Police Operation
In a significant development, two women, one from Israel and one from Kenya, were arrested on Friday for their suspected involvement in an international sex racket in Goa, India. The operation was conducted by the Anjuna police, and the arrests were confirmed by Deputy Superintendent of Police, Jivba Dalvi.
Operation Unveils Trafficking Network
The alleged international sex racket spanned across Kenya and India, with victims being trafficked from Kenya to India. During the operation, five women were successfully rescued with the assistance of the non-governmental organization (NGO) ARZ. According to police officials, women from Kenya had been promised job opportunities in the hospitality sector in India by agents operating on behalf of human traffickers.
Victims Exploited After Arrival in India
Upon reaching India, the victims had their passports and visas confiscated by the agents, who then coerced them into engaging in prostitution under the constant threat of violence. The sex racket primarily operated online, leveraging escort service websites to solicit clients.
The racket’s existence was brought to light when the NGO ARZ identified victims who had been taken to Bengaluru, prompting the Goa police to take immediate action. A raid was conducted, resulting in the rescue of the victims.
Protective Measures for Rescued Victims
The women who were rescued from this exploitative situation have been provided shelter in a protective home located in Merces, ensuring their safety and well-being.
This operation underscores the need for vigilant law enforcement and the crucial role played by NGOs in identifying and combatting human trafficking and sex rackets on an international scale.
