In a heartbreaking incident in Bir Billing, Himachal Pradesh, two trekkers, Abhinandan Gupta (30) from Pathankot and Pranita Wala (26) from Pune, lost their lives during an outing. Their bodies were discovered nearly 48 hours after they went missing. A German Shepherd dog accompanying them remained beside the bodies, barking until they were found on Tuesday.

Details of the Incident:

The trekkers had set out in a group of four, including two women, in a car. When the vehicle couldn’t proceed further, they continued on foot. As weather conditions changed, two members decided to turn back to safety. However, Gupta, an experienced paraglider in the area, expressed confidence in knowing the route and continued with Pranita and the dog.

Search and Discovery:

After Gupta and Wala failed to return, the remaining members of the group filed a missing complaint, prompting a search party. The bodies were located three kilometers below the paragliding takeoff point in a steep and slippery area. The preliminary assessment indicates they may have slipped and fallen, with snow making the terrain treacherous.

Loyal Companion:

Throughout the search and discovery, the German Shepherd remained beside the bodies, barking and wailing, highlighting the loyalty and companionship animals can provide even in tragic circumstances.

Warning for Tourists:

Authorities stressed the need for caution, especially in areas experiencing heavy snowfall and rapidly changing weather. Local guides or residents familiar with the region are recommended for anyone venturing out. Poor connectivity in such areas makes phones less reliable, reinforcing the importance of preparedness and local assistance.

This incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictable challenges that can arise during treks, urging tourists to prioritize safety and seek guidance when exploring unfamiliar terrains.
