Three Apprehended in Bemina J-k for attack on Policeman
The Director General of Police (DGP) for Jammu and Kashmir, RR Swain, announced on Sunday that the police have successfully dismantled the module responsible for the attack on a police constable in Bemina, Srinagar, on December 9.
During a press conference at the Police Control Room (PCR), DGP Swain revealed that meticulous investigations and solid pieces of evidence led the police to identify three individuals involved in the attack. The suspects were identified as Imtiyaz Ahmed Khanday of Hamdaniya Colony Sect A, Bemina, Mehnan Khan of Khawajapora, Rainawari, and Danish Ahmed Mala of Sector A, Hamdaniya Colony, Bemina.

According to DGP Swain, these individuals were operating under the direction of Hamza-Burhan, a handler based in Pakistan’s Pulwama region. Among the three, Danish Malla emerged as the mastermind behind the conspiracy to attack Police Constable Muhammad Hafiz Chak, who was targeted on his way home after duty. The assailants fired six bullets at Constable Chak, resulting in injuries, with two bullets piercing him and one hitting his spine, later successfully removed by medical intervention. The constable is currently in stable condition.
Imtiyaz Ahmed Khanday was identified as the assailant who fired at Constable Hafiz in Hamdaniya Colony, Bemina. Upon interrogation, police recovered the weapon used in the attack—a Canik TP09, a Turkey-made pistol, along with one magazine and one round of 9mm ammunition. Mehnan Khan, another suspect, was found in possession of a second Canik TP09, along with one magazine and seven rounds.
Danish Mall, the alleged mastermind, had in his possession 57 rounds of 9mm ammunition and two magazines. All three arrested individuals were reportedly affiliated with Lashkar-e-Toiba/TRF.DGP Swain highlighted that the investigations revealed the trio had compiled a lengthy list of policemen as potential targets, with a majority of the targets belonging to law enforcement.
Responding to inquiries about any connection between this module and the killing of Police Inspector Masroor Ahmed Wani, who was attacked while playing cricket at Eidgah, Srinagar, on October 29, DGP Swain stated that the NIA is currently investigating that particular case.
He commended the police force for their professional handling of the Bemina Cop attack case and the successful apprehension of the accused.On December 9, unidentified militants had opened fire on Senior-grade Constable Mohammad Hafiz Chak near Hamdania Colony Bemina, resulting in his hospitalization.
He was initially taken to JVC Hospital and later shifted to the 92 Base Army Hospital, where he continues to receive treatment.
