Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Friday that the Tata Group has applied to establish a semiconductor processing plant in Assam, investing Rs 40,000 crore. Sarma expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his guidance in transforming the state. The semiconductor plant is viewed as a game-changer for Assam’s industrial landscape.

Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Sarma launched the Mukhya Mantri Atmanirbhar Asom portal, initiating the application process. The Atmanirbhar Assam Abhiyan, launched on September 23, aims to empower two lakh youth for entrepreneurial ventures, providing Rs 2 lakhs in two installments as government grants and interest-free loans.

Sarma highlighted that the scheme, targeting two lakh beneficiaries over two years, aims to financially empower youth, making them eligible for further central government loans. The web portal has already seen 2,29,145 beneficiary registrations, with 1591 youth holding professional degrees eligible for a Rs 5 lakh loan under the scheme.
