Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Parshottam Rupala, Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, joined hands to inaugurate the two-day Technology Exhibition-cum-Seed Mela at SKUAST Kashmir, marking a pivotal moment in the transformation of the Agriculture and allied sector in the Union Territory.

Parshottam Rupala, in his address, praised the Lt Governor-led UT Administration for its commendable efforts in transforming the agricultural landscape of J&K. The Union Minister particularly acknowledged the promotion of innovation-based Agri Startups and announced plans for an Aqua park in the region, emphasizing support for livestock production and the creation of modern fish markets.

The Lt Governor expressed gratitude for the support from the Union Minister and the Government of India, emphasizing SKUAST-Kashmir’s vital role in driving reforms in the Agriculture Sector. He acknowledged the diverse climate and abundant resources in J&K, reinforcing their suitability for agricultural development, particularly in livestock rearing and fisheries activities.
Tap-Water to Every Household in JK:From Green and White to Blue Revolution: A New Agricultural Era
Under the theme “From Green and White Revolution to Blue Revolution: Cold Water Fisheries a Game Changer in J&K,” this year’s Mela signifies a new era of agricultural transformation. The Lt Governor highlighted the event’s role as a platform for knowledge exchange, technology dissemination, and market linkages, empowering farmers to embrace modern practices while preserving traditions.
In the unique context of Jammu & Kashmir, Agriculture, livestock, and fisheries sectors contribute a staggering 51% to the State Gross Domestic Product, underscoring their pivotal role in economic prosperity. The Lt Governor reiterated the government’s commitment to harnessing the potential of the Agriculture and allied sector to create a brighter tomorrow.
The Lt Governor outlined the government’s dedicated efforts, including the implementation of the Holistic Agricultural Development Programme (HADP) in Jammu Kashmir. The HADP aims to transform subsistence agriculture into a sustainable commercial agri-economy, promoting risk management through diversification and smart agricultural practices.
Amidst these initiatives, the Lt Governor also highlighted the UT Administration’s efforts, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, for the empowerment of farmers and tribal communities. He announced positive steps under the Forest Rights Act and extended relief to Seasonal Teachers, demonstrating a comprehensive approach to agricultural and socio-economic development.
The event showcased a Start-Up Studio unveiling and the release of a publication on Pastoralism in India, bringing together key stakeholders, officials, farmers, agri-entrepreneurs, innovators, researchers, and students in a collaborative effort towards agricultural excellence.
