T20 World Cup 2026: Pakistan Spinner Usman Tariq Responds to Action Criticism, Says India Will Face ‘Extra Pressure’
Pakistan spinner Usman Tariq has brushed aside criticism over his bowling action and fired a warning ahead of the much-anticipated India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup 2026 clash scheduled for Sunday.
The 30-year-old made his tournament debut against the United States in Colombo on Tuesday and delivered an impressive spell of 3/27, helping Pakistan register a comfortable 32-run victory and climb to the top of Group A. Yet, even as Pakistan celebrated the win, attention shifted to Tariq’s bowling action, with sections of fans and commentators questioning its legality. Some even went as far as labelling him a “chucker.”
Usman Tariq Reacts to Bowling Action Debate
Facing the media after the match, Usman Tariq addressed the criticism of his bowling action but appeared unfazed. He suggested that the noise surrounding the issue could pile pressure on Indian batters ahead of the marquee encounter.
“I guess there will be extra pressure on them. The way they are discussing these things, it shows maybe there will be pressure on them,” Tariq said.
He added that he isn’t paying attention to the debate. “I don’t really know what’s going on in the media. I’m just focusing on my cricket and my practice.”
His calm response signalled that the Pakistan spinner is determined to let his performances speak rather than get drawn into controversy.
‘It’s Just Another Game’
When asked about the high-voltage India-Pakistan clash, Tariq struck a measured tone. Despite the hype that typically surrounds the fixture, he insisted the team would treat it like any other match.
“I think the record that we note down, I guess we should note it down from where we started losing. If you look at it from the beginning, then we have a good record from the beginning. So we should count also that. Because those are also the title matches,” he observed.
Turning to the upcoming contest, he added, “Any game that comes to us, we have to give our best. In this way, we have to win this World Cup and make it memorable for everyone. So it’s just a normal game for me, for the team. When you get that hype in your mind, it’s better to keep it simple and stick to the plans.”
Strong Start in T20 World Cup 2026
The numbers back up the confidence. In just four T20 internationals, Usman Tariq has taken 11 wickets at a striking average of 7.90, conceding at less than a run per ball.
He had already made headlines during Pakistan’s recent 3-0 T20I series sweep over Australia, where he consistently troubled batters with his variations and control.
Now, with the India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup 2026 showdown looming, all eyes will be on Tariq — not only for his bowling action, but for whether he can deliver again on cricket’s biggest stage.
For Pakistan, he’s emerging as a key weapon. For India, he may well be the challenge they’re talking about.
