Suspensions Follow Brazen Murder of Karni Sena Chief in Jaipur
In the aftermath of the bold assassination of Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi, the national president of Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena, in Jaipur, two police personnel, including the Station House Officer (SHO), have been suspended. The Jaipur Police Commissioner took action by suspending the SHO of Shyam Nagar police station and the beat constable due to alleged negligence in connection with the murder.
Widow’s Response and Funeral Arrangements
Speaking to reporters, Sheela Shekhawat, the widow of Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi, announced the suspensions and emphasized that the accused would be arrested within 72 hours. She called on Karni Sena activists to support her and attend Gogamedi’s last rites, scheduled for Thursday in his native village, Gogamedi. The mortal remains of the Karni Sena chief will be publicly displayed at Rajput Sabha Bhawan in Jaipur before the funeral.
Security Measures and Investigation
To avert untoward incidents during the funeral, Central Armed Police Force personnel have been deployed in Jaipur and other parts of Rajasthan. A retired judge of the high court will investigate the entire sequence of events leading to Gogamedi’s murder. The Rajasthan Police have identified two shooters involved in the killing, while a third assailant, Naveen Shekhawat, was killed during an exchange of fire with the police at Gogamedi’s residence.
Community Outrage and Ongoing Protests
The murder of Gogamedi triggered outrage among the Rajput community, prompting an initially declared state-wide bandh, which was later called off. The ongoing protests in front of Metro Mass Hospital were pushed back following an agreement between the Police Commissioner and the Sangharsh Committee, accepted by Gogamedi’s widow.
