Surat Police Implements AI Solutions to Tackle Cybercrime
Surat police have embraced Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered solutions to train their personnel in combating cybercrime and meeting the cybersecurity needs of citizens. The Surat Cyber Cell has introduced a chatbot using AI, capable of communicating with victims in their preferred language. The ‘Find My Police Station’ feature enables cybercrime victims to locate their nearest police station through a public interface acting like a helpline, offering assistance regardless of the time.
AI Benefits for Victims of Cybercrime
The implementation of AI in Surat is aimed at benefiting victims of cybercrime by providing efficient support through technological means. The AI-powered system not only aids victims but also assists law enforcement in identifying the concentration and nature of cybercrimes in different areas of the city.
Training Police with AI
In addition to aiding victims, AI will play a crucial role in training police officers. The technology will be used to educate law enforcement personnel on identifying and apprehending cybercrime gangs involved in activities such as phishing, stalking, and sextortion. This move is part of Surat police’s broader strategy to leverage AI in enhancing their capabilities to address evolving challenges in the realm of cybercrime.
Last month, Punjab Police took a similar step by signing an MoU with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar, establishing an in-house AI and Machine Learning Lab, showcasing a growing trend in law enforcement agencies adopting advanced technologies to combat modern-day threats.
