Supreme Court Rejects Plea on EVM Irregularities

The Supreme Court, comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna, Dipankar Datta, and Augustine George Masih, dismissed a petition raising concerns over electronic voting machines (EVMs). The court noted its prior examination of similar matters, highlighting both positive and negative aspects of different methods. Petitioner Nandini Sharma’s plea was declined, with the court expressing reluctance to entertain numerous petitions regarding EVM concerns.

    Court’s Firm Stand

Emphasizing the exhaustive nature of previous cases related to EVMs, the court reiterated its stance on the matter. It acknowledged the importance of addressing electoral issues but indicated limitations in entertaining repetitive petitions. This refusal underscores the court’s commitment to judiciously managing its docket while prioritizing significant legal matters.

    Continued Judicial Oversight

The Supreme Court’s decision follows its consistent engagement with petitions concerning EVM integrity. Notably, a previous petition challenging the Election Commission’s handling of EVM scrutiny was rejected last year. This reaffirms the judiciary’s role in upholding electoral transparency while ensuring the integrity of democratic processes.
