Supreme Court Orders SBI to Disclose Electoral Bonds Details
The Supreme Court has issued a directive to the State Bank of India (SBI) to disclose comprehensive details regarding Electoral Bonds to the Election Commission of India. In a landmark decision, a five-judge Constitution bench, led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, instructed SBI’s Chairman to submit a compliance affidavit by March 21.
Mandate for Full Disclosure
The bench emphasized that SBI must divulge all relevant information without any omissions, including the unique alphanumeric numbers corresponding to each Electoral Bond. It mandated the Election Commission to promptly upload the received details on its website to ensure transparency and accountability.
Reaffirming Judicial Integrity
During the proceedings, the bench underscored the importance of impartiality and non-selective disclosure by SBI. The court dismissed requests for a suo motu review of the Electoral Bonds judgment, reaffirming its commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring a level playing field in the electoral process.
