Supreme Court Criticizes Returning Officer in Chandigarh Mayor Election
The Returning Officer in the Chandigarh Mayor election, Anil Masih, appeared before the Supreme Court after the court ordered him to do so.
The Supreme Court criticized Masih for defacing the ballots during the election.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Manoj Sonkar had resigned from the post of Chandigarh Mayor a day ahead of the Supreme Court hearing on allegations of irregularities in the vote-counting process.
The court had earlier ordered the preservation of the entire record of the election process and expressed dissatisfaction with the conduct of the Returning Officer.
The controversy arose when eight votes of the AAP-Congress alliance were declared invalid, leading to allegations of vote tampering.
