In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Stalin urgently requested intervention to resolve the issue. The Chief Minister emphasized the severe impact of these incidents on the fishermen’s right to livelihood, as they have historically utilized these fishing waters.
Alarming Statistics Highlighting the Issue
Highlighting the gravity of the situation, Chief Minister Stalin shared statistics indicating the escalation of the problem. In 2023, the Sri Lankan navy arrested 243 fishermen and seized 37 boats.
