Sonamarg is gearing up to host a vibrant two-day New Year Festival starting on December 31, 2023, as announced by officials on Wednesday.

Anticipating a significant influx of both domestic and international tourists, the picturesque hill station in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district is poised to become a focal point for celebratory activities. A meeting, presided over by Deputy Commissioner Shyambir, brought together key officers and stakeholders to meticulously plan and review the preparations for this grand New Year Festival.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Sonamarg Development Authority presented an overview of the arrangements, emphasizing that the festival, spanning two days, will feature a diverse lineup of activities, including winter sports and cultural events. The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the need for detailed planning and execution, seeking information on venue identification, beautification, accommodation, water and power supply, cultural performances, health facilities, heating arrangements, transport, parking, and the operationalization of the Z-Morh Tunnel.

Given the expected surge in attendees, including locals, for the New Year celebration, the Deputy Commissioner underscored the significance of collaborative efforts and coordination among all stakeholders to ensure a seamless and enjoyable experience for everyone.

Key participants in the meeting included Additional District Development Commissioner Mushtaq Ahmad Simnani, CEO of SDA, Joint Director of Tourism, Executive Engineers from various departments, representatives from the Hotelier Association Sonamarg, and various officers and officials from the District Administration, along with other stakeholders. The collective endeavors aim to transform the Sonamarg New Year Festival into a memorable and delightful experience for all participants.
