    Sonam Wangchuk released from detention; prohibitory orders withdrawn: Delhi Police informs Delhi HC

    Sonam Wangchuk – climate activist, and his associates have been released from detention, whereas prohibitory orders have been withdrawn, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta informed Delhi High Court today.

    He also added that prohibitory orders prohibiting assembly and protests in various parts of Delhi has also been withdrawn.

    A two member bench consists of Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela was hearing the petition seeking the release of Climate Activist Sonam Wangchuk and prohibitory orders barring the activists. Solicitor general made the statement before the honourable two-member bench.

    Prior to this, Sonam Wangchuk alongwith 120 members were detained at Delhi border by police while marching towards capital city Delhi for the demand of sixth schedule status for Ladakh.

    Mehta further stated that climate activist Sonam Wangchuk and his associates have been released and their movement is not restricted.

    As the Ladakh gets broiling on the sixth schedule protest, it saw the long protest earlier too. The status of Sixth schedule applies to the administration of tribal areas in the States of Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram as “autonomous districts and autonomous regions”.
