Security Measures During Iranian President’s Visit Slow Industrial Activities in Pakistan
Industrial activities in Pakistan experienced a significant slowdown, with reports suggesting a contraction of up to 40 percent amid heightened security measures during Iranian President Sayyed Ebrahim Raisi’s visit to Karachi, according to Dawn.
Despite a local holiday declared in the city’s economic hub, several export-oriented industries resumed operations on Tuesday, albeit facing challenges such as labor shortages and disruptions in cargo movement due to road blockades.
Closure of key arteries like MA Jinnah Road and Shahra-e-Faisal led to extensive traffic congestion, hindering both worker commute and goods flow.
The repercussions extended to Lahore, impacting economic activities in the country’s second-largest city, further underscoring the need for concerted efforts to capitalize on trade opportunities and foster economic cooperation between Pakistan and Iran.
