SEC Extends Deadline for Panchayat Electoral Roll-2024 in JK, Stresses Efficiency
The State Election Commissioner (SEC), Braj Raj Sharma, presided over a meeting to evaluate the progress of the revised schedule for the Panchayat Electoral Roll-2024 in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Key participants included Secretary RDD Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, Secretary SEC Susheel Kumar, Joint Director Information (HQ) Vevaik Puri, Joint Director RDD Avleen Kour, and Assistant Commissioner Relief (Migrant) Riyaz Ahmad, along with Deputy Commissioners who attended via video conference.
During the meeting, the SEC scrutinized the district-wise status of the Panchayat Electoral Roll-2024 update, addressing challenges and obstacles encountered in the process. An extension was declared by the SEC for the submission of claims, objections, additions, deletions, corrections, and transpositions, now open until February 12. Additional special camps at polling booth locations are scheduled for February 10 and 11.
Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) were instructed to handle claims and objections by February 23, 2024, and the final publication of the Panchayats Electoral Roll 2024 is slated for March 3, 2024. Stressing the importance of efficiency, the SEC urged officials to expedite the Electoral Roll update process. The SEC highlighted the availability of Panchayat Election Booth Officials (PEBOs), including Village Level Workers (VLWs), Multi-Purpose Workers (MPWs), and Gram Rozgar Sevak (GRS), to aid electors with necessary forms and Panchayat Rolls.
