Scrutiny Completes for JK Assembly Elections Phase 1, 244 Nominations Valid

JAMMU, AUGUST 28: The scrutiny of nomination papers for the first phase of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Elections 2024 has been completed. Out of the 279 nominations submitted across 24 Assembly Constituencies, 244 were deemed valid, while 35 were rejected based on the guidelines provided by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
The scrutiny process was conducted by the respective Returning Officers across seven districts, including Anantnag, Pulwama, Doda, Kishtwar, Kulgam, Shopian, and Ramban.
Notably, Anantnag district saw the highest number of valid nominations at 67, followed by Pulwama with 46, and Doda with 34.
In Kishtwar, 12 nominations were validated in the 48-Inderwal constituency, 10 in 49-Kishtwar, and 7 in 50-Padder-Nagseni. Doda district accepted 14 nominations in 51-Bhadarwah, 11 in 52-Doda, and 9 in 53-Doda West. Ramban district approved 12 nominations in 54-Ramban and 9 in 55-Banihal.
In Pulwama, the validated nominations include 14 in 32-Pampore, 10 in 33-Tral, 12 in 34-Pulwama, and 10 in 35-Rajpora. Meanwhile, Shopian saw 10 nominations accepted in 36-Zainapora and 11 in 37-Shopian.
Kulgam validated 6 nominations in 38-DH Pora, 10 in 39-Kulgam, and 10 in 40-Devsar. Finally, in Anantnag, the numbers ranged from 3 to 13 valid nominations across its six constituencies.
Candidates have until 30 August 2024, to withdraw their nominations. Phase 1 of the election will occur on 18 September 2024, with over 23.27 lakh voters eligible to participate.
