The Supreme Court has intervened and stayed the Madras High Court’s decision to sentence retired IPS officer Sampath Kumar to 15 days imprisonment in the contempt of court case filed by cricketer MS Dhoni.

A bench of justices Abhay S Oka and Ujjal Bhuyan issued notice to the concerned respondents, and Sampath Kumar has approached the Supreme Court challenging the Madras High Court’s order.

The contempt petition by Dhoni accused Kumar of making derogatory remarks against the Supreme Court during the investigation of the 2013 IPL spot-fixing and betting cases.

The matter will be further addressed in the Supreme Court.
