S Jaishankar Lauds India-Russia Partnership as “Valued and Time-tested”
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar expressed India’s enduring bond with Russia, emphasizing the strong, beneficial, and historical relationship between the two countries.
Jaishankar highlighted various sectors of cooperation, including trade, investment, military cooperation, and connectivity projects, underscoring the significance of the India-Russia relationship.
Addressing queries regarding India’s ties with Russia, Jaishankar asserted the robustness and mutual benefits of this alliance.
He downplayed concerns of overdependence, emphasizing the partnership’s resilience that spans nearly six decades.
Additionally, he stressed India’s economic growth and its positive impact on global trade dynamics, citing the International North-South corridor as an example of India’s commitment to global economic progress.
Jaishankar emphasized the importance of the annual leadership meetings between India and Russia, expressing regret over the non-holding of this year’s meeting due to India’s G20 Presidency and end-of-year commitments.
However, he expressed confidence in the resumption of these summits in the upcoming year, underscoring the positive sentiment between the two nations.
During a joint press conference with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Jaishankar highlighted the ongoing negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement between India and the Eurasian Economic Union, set to recommence in January.
He praised the bilateral trade between India and Russia, emphasizing the balanced, sustainable nature of this trade, aiming for enhanced market access.
Jaishankar further touched upon mutual investments, upcoming conferences, and bilateral agreements concerning trade and investment, highlighting the collaborative stance and strategic convergence between India and Russia on geopolitical interests.
In summary, Jaishankar reiterated the strong, mutually beneficial, and strategic nature of the India-Russia relationship, expressing optimism about the forthcoming annual leadership summit and the bilateral trade negotiations set to resume in January.
