RAMALLAH, October 18, 2026, [VoM News]: The masked Israeli settlers have reportedly attacked a French mayor who was travelling with a European delegation in the occupied West Bank on Saturday.
As per information available with VoM News, Bernard Baudoux, 78, mayor of the French commune of Aulnoye-Aymeries has said he was violently attacked by masked Israeli settlers.
While interacting with Reuters, he said that the delegation was travelling to the village of Taybeh to participate in olive picking as a symbolic gesture when the incident occurred.
He further added he was wearing his mayoral sash displaying the colours of the French flag in an attempt to identify himself and protect those accompanying him.
Despite identify, he alleged that settlers attacked him and threw him to the ground before members of the delegation intervened.
The group subsequently returned to their vehicles and left the area.
Baudoux further claimed he had travelled to the region as a pacifist for activities connected with friendship between municipalities and had not expected such an incident.
He called for the delegation to return to the olive plantations, saying they hold significant importance for Palestinians, and urged Israeli authorities to provide protection against any further confrontations.
The governments of France and Belgium, whose representatives were part of the delegation, condemned the reported attack.
Israeli authorities and the military have also condemned the incident and said an investigation is underway.
