    RP Keerthana Shines: Breaks National Youth Records to Win Gold in Weightlifting

    Tamil Nadu’s weightlifter RP Keerthana showcased a stellar performance, breaking the National Youth records in Snatch, Clean & Jerk, and overall categories to secure the gold in the girls’ 81kg category at the 6th Khelo India Youth Games 2023.

    Record-Breaking Lifts

    Keerthana lifted a total of 188 kgs, with an impressive snatch of 85kg and a Clean & Jerk of 106kg. Her remarkable performance surpassed the previous records in Snatch (81kg), Clean & Jerk (104kg), and overall (185kg), held by Ch. Srilakshmi of Andhra Pradesh.

    Podium Finish and Competitors

    Securing the gold, Keerthana finished ahead of her state-mate Oviya K (184kg), while Uttar Pradesh’s Santushti Choudhary claimed the bronze with a total lift of 162kg. The competitors witnessed fierce competition, highlighting the rising talent in Indian weightlifting.

    Maharashtra Continues Dominance Across Sports

    In the morning session, Maharashtra continued to dominate the medal tally, adding six gold medals across archery, Kho-kho, and badminton. The state’s athletes, led by world champion Aditi Gopichand Swami in archery, contributed significantly to Maharashtra’s success.

    The 6th Khelo India Youth Games 2023 continues to be a platform for young athletes to showcase their talent and break records, setting the stage for future sporting achievements.
