Rouse Avenue Court Directs CBI to Submit Detailed Report on Delhi Excise Policy Case Investigation

Defence Counsel Objects to Non-Full Disclosure, Requests Complete Status Report

The Rouse Avenue court, overseeing the Delhi Excise Policy case, has instructed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to submit a comprehensive status report on the ongoing investigation in a sealed cover. The direction follows objections from the defence counsel, citing concerns about incomplete disclosure regarding the investigation’s status. The court set the next date of hearing for February 22 and extended the judicial custody of Former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia until then.

    Ongoing Investigation and Defence’s Opposition

The CBI informed the court that the investigation is at a crucial stage and has been completed for the 16 charge-sheeted accused individuals. However, further investigation is ongoing for the remaining accused and suspects. The defence counsel opposed setting a date for arguments on charges, stating that the status report provided is incomplete, and they need time for scrutiny. The court acknowledged the concerns and directed the CBI to install the necessary software in the laptops of defence counsels to access case-related files.

    Background of the Case

The Delhi Excise Policy case involves Former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, who has been in judicial custody. The court has been monitoring the progress of the investigation, with periodic updates from the CBI. The Supreme Court had earlier dismissed Sisodia’s bail petition, and subsequent bail applications were rejected by both the High Court and the trial court. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) alleges that proceeds of crime amounting to around Rs 622 crore have been generated due to Sisodia’s activities, leading to his arrest by the CBI on February 26. The ED later arrested him on March 9.
