Congress leader Rahul Gandhi took a jibe at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over its promise to make a backward caste candidate the Chief Minister of Telangana, questioning how they could achieve this with a predicted meager percentage of votes. Gandhi addressed public meetings in various locations in Telangana, asserting that the Congress had deflated the BJP’s prospects in the state.

Gandhi ridiculed the BJP’s claim of a strong presence in Telangana and stated that they would secure only two percent of the votes, making it impossible for them to form a government. This comment came in response to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent announcement regarding making a backward class leader the Chief Minister if the BJP came to power in the state.

Taking a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rahul Gandhi humorously suggested that the Prime Minister would travel to the United States and declare his intent to make an Other Backward Class (OBC) candidate the President of America. He quipped, “You will neither be able to make a President in America nor a Chief Minister here (Telangana).”

Gandhi also targeted the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) and alleged that the party fields candidates wherever the Congress contests against the BJP, with financial support from the saffron party. He claimed that the Congress had “deflated the tires of the BJP” in Telangana and vowed to do the same across India.

Rahul Gandhi asserted that the BJP, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), and AIMIM had a covert understanding and questioned the lack of cases against the Chief Minister if there was no tacit agreement. He also promised to conduct a caste census if the Congress came to power in Telangana and reiterated the commitment to conduct a caste census in the country after the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Gandhi criticized the Kaleswaram project and accused the Chief Minister of misappropriating funds. He displayed a mock ‘Kaleswaram ATM’ made by his party as a symbolic representation of the alleged corruption.

Finally, he highlighted the Congress’s election promises, including the ‘Mahalakshmi’ scheme, which entails providing Rs 2,500 to women every month, offering LPG cylinders for Rs 500, and free bus travel for women.
