PTI Demands Independent Inquiry After Kakar-Abbasi Spat
Key Highlights:
- PTI calls for independent probe after tense exchange between Kakar and Abbasi.
- Demand arises amidst accusations of electoral malfeasance and wheat import scheme.
- PTI issues white paper alleging rigging in February 8 general elections.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has called for an independent inquiry following a heated exchange between former caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hanif Abbasi. The PTI spokesperson stated that the confrontation exposed alleged electoral malfeasance. The demand for a judicial commission stems from accusations surrounding the wheat import scheme and electoral manipulation.
Tensions arose during a meeting at a private hotel over the wheat scandal, with Abbasi facing criticism for accusing Kakar’s tenure of involvement. PTI criticized Kakar’s intimidation tactics and emphasized the need for accountability. They stressed the repercussions of alleged mismanagement under Kakar’s government, particularly the costly wheat imports affecting farmers.
Additionally, PTI issued a white paper alleging rigging in the February 8 general elections, claiming victory was turned into defeat through manipulation of Form-47. The party highlighted the need for electoral reforms based on international reports and media coverage. As PTI demands transparency and accountability, the political landscape in Pakistan faces heightened scrutiny amidst allegations of electoral irregularities.
