Private Member Bill to Repeal Waqf Act, 1995, Introduced in Rajya Sabha
Amid strong protests by opposition parties, a private member bill seeking to repeal the Waqf Act, 1995, was introduced in the Rajya Sabha.
BJP member Harnath Singh Yadav moved the Waqf Repeal Bill 2022 for introduction, facing opposition from members of various parties, including Congress, TMC, DMK, CPI, CPI (M), and RJD.
The division of votes resulted in the approval of the bill’s introduction, with 53 members in favor and 32 opposed.
The Waqf Repeal Bill 2022 will be taken up for discussion at a later stage.
