Prime Minister Narendra Modi pledged the Central government’s dedication to bolster the development of Lakshadweep, emphasizing the administration’s efforts to address challenges in health, education, and various other sectors faced by the Union Territory.
Addressing a public gathering in Agatti, PM Modi highlighted the previous neglect the region experienced despite being full of possibilities, citing infrastructural gaps, particularly in the realm of port infrastructure and shipping lifelines.
He underscored recent accomplishments, mentioning the establishment of an ice plant in Agatti that will offer opportunities in seafood processing and enhance income avenues for locals. Additionally, he acknowledged the provision of essential facilities like housing, toilets, electricity, and gas for the underprivileged.
During his visit, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for developmental projects valued at over Rs 1,150 crore in Agatti. Notably, he inaugurated the Kochi-Lakshadweep Islands Submarine Optical Fiber Connection (KLI-SOFC) project to tackle the challenge of slow internet speed in the territory.
