President Murmu Advocates for All-India Judicial Service to Enhance Judiciary
During the Constitution Day celebrations at the Supreme Court, President Droupadi Murmu proposed the creation of an all-India judicial service. This service aims to identify and cultivate talented young individuals within the judiciary, guiding their growth from lower to higher judicial levels. Her suggestion emphasizes the need for a diverse and robust judicial system, aligning with the unique constitutional position of the judiciary in India.
Emphasizing Diversity and Merit in Judiciary
President Murmu stressed the importance of a judiciary that mirrors India’s rich diversity, which she believes is essential for delivering justice more effectively. The proposed all-India judicial service would not only focus on merit and transparency in the recruitment process but also ensure representation from various social backgrounds. This approach is expected to create a more inclusive and competitive environment, attracting a broader talent pool from across the country.
Call for Inclusive Opportunities and Effective Mechanisms
In her address, President Murmu encouraged the development of effective mechanisms to strengthen the justice delivery system, particularly focusing on offering opportunities to less-represented social groups. Her suggestions were directed to the esteemed gathering, including Chief Justice of India Justice DY Chandrachud and other judges from the top court and high courts. The president’s proposal for an all-India judicial service is a significant step towards enhancing the judiciary’s efficiency and inclusivity, reflecting India’s commitment to upholding and strengthening its constitutional values.
