PM Narendra Modi to Inaugurate and Lay Foundation Stones for Multiple Development Projects in Tamil Nadu and Lakshadweep
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to embark on a two-day visit to Tamil Nadu and Lakshadweep on January 2 and 3, where he will inaugurate and lay foundation stones for several significant development projects. The Office of the Prime Minister detailed his itinerary, highlighting the vital initiatives to be undertaken during this visit.
On January 2, PM Modi will arrive in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, as the chief guest at Bharathidasan University’s 38th Convocation Ceremony. Subsequently, he will partake in a public event in Tiruchirappalli, laying the foundation stone for various development projects valued at over Rs 19,850 crore. These projects encompass aviation, rail, road, oil and gas, shipping, and higher education sectors.
The prime minister is scheduled to inaugurate the New Terminal Building at Tiruchirappalli International Airport, built at a cost exceeding Rs 1,100 crore. This two-level terminal is equipped to cater to over 44 lakh passengers annually and accommodate around 3,500 passengers during peak hours.
PM Modi will also inaugurate railway projects aimed at enhancing freight and passenger rail capacity, such as the doubling of the rail line section covering 160 Km from Madurai to Tuticorin, along with three rail line electrification projects.
Moreover, he will inaugurate five road sector projects, focusing on facilitating safer and faster travel within the region, strengthening connectivity among industrial and commercial centers.
In addition, PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for road development initiatives, including the construction of a 31-km long four-lane road from Mugaiyur to Marakkanam, connecting ports on the East Coast of Tamil Nadu and providing better connectivity to vital sites.
Further emphasizing the development in the region, the prime minister will dedicate the General Cargo Berth-II (Automobile Export/Import Terminal-II & Capital Dredging Phase-V) of Kamarajar Port, marking significant progress in maritime infrastructure.
Notably, PM Modi will also dedicate various petroleum and natural gas projects, fostering the fulfillment of energy requirements for industrial, domestic, and commercial sectors in the region. Among these projects is the Demonstration Fast Reactor Fuel Reprocessing Plant at the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research Kalpakkam, designed indigenously and a significant stride in the field.
Continuing his visit, on January 3, PM Modi will proceed to Lakshadweep, laying the foundation stone for projects surpassing Rs 1,150 crore. The highlight of his Lakshadweep visit will be the inauguration of the Kochi-Lakshadweep Islands Submarine Optical Fiber Connection (KLI-SOFC) project. This initiative aims to revolutionize communication infrastructure, significantly boosting internet speed and enabling various digital services.
The visit will witness the inauguration of the Low-Temperature Thermal Desalination plant at Kadmat, addressing clean drinking water needs, and the Functional Household Tap Connections in Agatti and Minicoy islands.
Additionally, PM Modi will dedicate a solar power plant at Kavaratti and inaugurate a new administrative block and 80 Men barrack in the India Reserve Battalion Complex at Kavaratti. These initiatives are geared towards sustainable energy, enhanced communication, and improved administrative infrastructure in Lakshadweep.
The visit underscores the government’s commitment to holistic development, connectivity, and advancements in various sectors for the welfare of Tamil Nadu and Lakshadweep’s residents.
