
Trinamool Congress Faces Setback; Rajya Sabha MP Koel Mallick Resigns
New Delhi, July 16, 2026 [VoM News]: In a major setback to Trinamool Congress, Rajya Sabha member Koel Mallick tenders her resignation from the Upper House.
As the monsoon session of parliament is yet to start, this resignation of Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha Member has added a major electoral setback to the party.
While tendering her resignation letter addressed which was addressed to Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan, Mallick requested that her resignation be accepted with immediate effect.

“I do hereby resign from the membership of Rajya Sabha, which may please be accepted with immediate effect,” she wrote.
On April 06, Rajya Sabha member Koel Mallick took the oath as Rajya Sabha member, and this resignation has created the immense pressure on Trinamool Congress also, and that too, before the commencement of July 20 moonsoon session.
Prior to this, three Rajya Sabha MPs resigned from the party and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and the party is facing internal unrests also.
Reports are surfacing that 20 of its Lok Sabha MPs have merged with the National Citizens Party of India, that would be detrimental for the political future of the party.
