PM Narendra Modi Flags Off India’s First Semi-High Speed Regional Rail Service, ‘Namo Bharat’
Transformational Rail Initiative Launched
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated ‘Namo Bharat,’ India’s first semi-high speed regional rail service in Uttar Pradesh, marking the launch of the Regional Rapid Train Service (RRTS) in India. The initiative is designed to offer high-speed trains for intercity commuting, with plans to link various regions of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Rajasthan in the first phase.
‘Namo Bharat’: Transforming Commuting
‘Namo Bharat’ is a transformational regional development project aimed at enhancing intercity commuting. The Prime Minister interacted with schoolchildren and even took a ride in the newly launched train. He stated that the entire 82-km stretch between Delhi and Meerut will be completed within the next 1-1.5 years. The name of the rail service was recently changed from RapidX to ‘NaMo Bharat.’
Priority Section Opens Tomorrow
The 17-km priority section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor is set to open for passengers the day after its inauguration. This section, spanning from Sahibabad to Duhai Depot, includes five stations: Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, and Duhai Depot. The RRTS trains prioritize passenger comfort with features such as overhead storage, Wi-Fi, charging options at each seat, and a premium-class car with spacious seating, ample legroom, and coat hangers.
Safety and Convenience Features
Safety features of the train include CCTV cameras, an emergency door-opening mechanism, and a button to communicate with a train operator. The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor is being developed at a cost exceeding Rs 30,000 crore and aims to connect Delhi to Meerut in less than an hour, passing through urban centers like Ghaziabad, Muradnagar, and Modinagar.
