Parliament Security Breach: Stringent Measures Imposed, Visitor Passes Suspended
In response to the recent security breach at the Lok Sabha, the Secretary General has urgently reached out to the Ministry of Home Affairs requesting a comprehensive security review. As an immediate measure, it has been decided that no visitor passes for the gallery will be issued until further notice, according to reliable sources.
The breach, which occurred during the Zero Hour on the 22nd anniversary of the Parliament terror attack, led Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to convene discussions with leaders of various political parties. Assuring swift action, the Speaker aligned with Opposition leaders’ concerns regarding security lapses, emphasizing the imperative need for a stringent review.
In the aftermath of the incident, Speaker Om Birla has personally taken charge of the visitor pass issuance process, particularly concerning the distribution of passes to MPs’ personal assistants, enhancing control and accountability, sources disclosed.
The breach itself involved two intruders entering the Lok Sabha chamber from the visitor gallery, armed with canisters. Congress MP Karti Chidambaram described the alarming scene, detailing how the intruders released yellow gas from these canisters while vocally expressing slogans before being restrained by fellow MPs.
Visual evidence depicted one individual leaping from the gallery, causing a brief disturbance, prompting the House to be adjourned until 2 pm. The chaotic situation unfolded during discussions of pressing public concerns, with BJP MP Khagen Murmu raising an issue just as the intrusion transpired.
Simultaneously, outside the Parliament premises, two individuals, one of whom was a woman, sprayed colored gas while chanting slogans, adding to the disruption and chaos.
Earlier statements from Congress MP Karti Chidambaram detailed the gravity of the situation, highlighting the intrusion of two individuals carrying canisters into the House from the visitor’s gallery.
