Parliament Security Breach: Custodial Remand Extended for Accused

The Patiala House Court has prolonged the custody of four individuals—Manoranjan, Neelam, Sagar, and Anmol—in connection with the Parliament security breach case. The accused will remain in the custody of the Special Cell of Delhi Police for an additional 15 days until January 5, 2024. This extension follows the breach incident on December 13 when two youths disrupted proceedings in the Lok Sabha chamber by setting off smoke cans and chanting slogans during Zero Hour.

Earlier, the Counter Intelligence Unit (CIU) of Delhi Police’s Special Cell brought all six accused involved in the breach to reenact the event, aiming to reconstruct the sequence of events based on their accounts.

Investigations uncovered that the accused formed a WhatsApp group comprising 7-8 members to meticulously plan and share details of their conspiracy to breach Parliament’s multiple security layers. Efforts are ongoing to trace the email communication of these individuals, with assistance sought from the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) for email retrieval.

The Special Cell conducted intensive interrogation across various units, with the accused placed in different divisions. Following joint questioning by the CIU, the court extended the custody of the four accused earlier remanded for seven days.

The investigation also revealed the creation of custom-made shoes in Lucknow, as the accused intended to conceal smoke cans undetected within their footwear. This revelation prompted Delhi Police to dispatch six teams to locations associated with the accused in Lucknow, Mysuru, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Haryana, aiming to unearth further leads in the case.

Efforts to reissue a destroyed SIM card utilized by the accused are underway, with Delhi Police pursuing avenues to access associated email accounts in their ongoing investigation.
