During the Super 4 match against Bangladesh at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, Babar scored 17 runs off 22 balls before falling to Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed. However, this knock allowed Babar to reach 2000 One Day International (ODI) runs as a captain, a feat he accomplished in just 31 innings.
Breaking Virat Kohli’s Record
Babar’s remarkable achievement in 31 innings surpassed the previous world record held by India’s Virat Kohli, who had achieved the milestone in 36 innings. This remarkable feat solidifies Babar’s status as one of the top cricketing talents in the world.
Top Run-Scorers as ODI Captains
Following Babar and Kohli in this record list is South Africa’s AB de Villiers, who achieved the feat in 41 innings, and Australia’s Michael Clarke, who did it in 46 innings.
Pakistan’s Victory Over Bangladesh

Despite a strong partnership and half-centuries by Shakib-Al-Hasan (53 off 57 balls) and former captain Mushfiqur Rahim (64 off 87 balls), Bangladesh was bowled out for just 193 runs in 38.4 overs. Pakistan chased down the target in 39.3 overs, with Imam-ul-Haq (84-ball knock) and Mohammad Rizwan (63 not out off 79 balls) leading the way.
Looking Ahead
With this victory, Pakistan is set to face arch-rivals India in their second Super Four game in Colombo on Sunday, setting the stage for an exciting contest.
