Oppo, OnePlus, and Realme Phones to Enhance PC Integration with Microsoft’s Phone Link and Link to Windows
Oppo smartphones, along with OnePlus and Realme, are set to enhance their compatibility with PCs and laptops running Windows 11 and Windows 10. This development comes with the announcement of support for Microsoft’s Phone Link and Link to Windows at the 2023 Oppo Developers Conference. However, users will need to update their devices to the latest versions of their respective operating systems — ColorOS for Oppo, OxygenOS for OnePlus, and Realme UI for Realme — to access these features.
Expansion of Microsoft’s Phone Link App
Previously exclusive to Surface devices and select Samsung and Honor phones, Microsoft’s Phone Link app is expanding its reach. Microsoft’s support page now includes Oppo’s Find and Reno series, OnePlus series, and Realme series. This indicates a significant step towards broader integration between smartphones and Windows PCs.
Functionality and Features
The integration allows for several functionalities, including Phone screen, which displays the phone screen remotely on the PC, and Apps, enabling the mirroring of smartphone apps. While specific smartphone models aren’t listed on Microsoft’s support page, the inclusion of these series suggests a wide range of compatible devices.
Comparative Features with Samsung Phones
Samsung smartphone users currently enjoy features like clipboard sync, file sharing, camera roll viewing, and managing phone calls and texts directly from their PCs. It’s expected that Oppo, OnePlus, and Realme users will have access to similar functionalities once the update is rolled out.
Awaiting Software Updates
The rollout of these features is contingent on the release of new OS versions — ColorOS 14 for Oppo, OxygenOS 14 for OnePlus, and Realme UI 5 for Realme. Users of these devices will need to update their smartphones to these versions to enjoy the enhanced PC-smartphone integration.
This move marks a significant advancement in the interoperability between Android smartphones and Windows systems, aiming to create a more seamless user experience across devices.
